Citrus Juicer
A citrus juicer extracts juice from lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit, and similar fruit while reducing seeds and hand strain.
Types
Handheld squeezers suit small quantities; reamers provide direct manual control; lever presses and electric citrus juicers improve throughput for larger volumes.
What to Look For
- A size compatible with the fruit used most often.
- Strong hinges or pressing mechanisms.
- Easy cleaning around seed screens and pulp channels.
- Food-safe corrosion-resistant construction.
Correct Use
Cut fruit cleanly and position it according to the juicer design. Strain further when seed or pulp control is critical.
Common Mistakes
- Forcing oversized fruit into a small handheld press.
- Leaving acidic juice on reactive components.
- Pressing peel so aggressively that excessive bitter oils or pith flavours enter delicate preparations.
Chef’s Notes
Fresh citrus is often a final seasoning. Extract close to use when bright aroma matters.
