A strawberry huller removes the leafy calyx and small core from strawberries while preserving more fruit than deep knife trimming.
Selection and Construction
Choose spring-loaded pincers or a small dedicated hulling tool with smooth food-contact surfaces and good control.
Professional Use
Insert just beneath the leaves, grip or cut the core, twist gently and lift. Hull after washing and drying when practical so cut fruit is not held wet for long periods.
Cleaning, Safety, and Storage
Clean promptly according to the material and manufacturer’s instructions, paying attention to joints, wires, teeth and other food-contact areas. Dry completely before storage and remove damaged equipment from service.
Chef’s Note
Specialised tools are worthwhile when they improve control, repeatability, yield or safety. They should not replace sound knife skills or safe handling when a simpler tool performs the task equally well.
